The Village Retirement Group has appealed against the Brisbane City Council’s decision to refuse its application to build high-rise retirement units at Lota House.
See details of the appeal to the Planning and Environment Court. The first review was held on May 10. The next review is scheduled for May 20, 2019 at the law courts complex, 415 George Street, Brisbane city. See court details NB - dates and times of court hearings can change. These are published in the court list the business day before the scheduled review. Check the court list on Friday, May 17, 2019. Scroll down until you find the Planning and Environment Court and look for Village Retirement Group V Brisbane City Council. You will see details of the courtroom and the time the review starts. We need your support to go along and show the council and the court that the community is still opposed to high-rise at Lota House. If we can fill the gallery each time there is a hearing, we can convince the council that we want them to keep fighting on our behalf. The court will be encouraging Village Retirement Group and council lawyers to come up with a compromise plan for development at Lota House. We don’t want Village Retirement Group and their lawyers to decide what should be built in our community. We believe the council’s decision on April 3, 2019 to reject the application was sound and reasonable and should stand. The application required that the State government provide heritage and impact assessment comments. Despite publicly opposing the development, the state approved it and in doing so, ignored more than 150 public submissions against the application. Write to the State Development and Planning Minister, Cameron Dick Tell him you are dissatisfied with the State’s actions. Write to our local member, Joan Pease. Joan Pease publicly opposed the application. Ask her to convey your disappointment to the State Government offices that approved the application. Urge the council to keep fighting on our behalf. Write to:
Anglicare and Village Retirement Group want to build 103 units in six storey towers at heritage listed Lota house. The community supports more aged care beds. We do not support upmarket high-rise. Please contact BAG if you have any further questions. We will keep you up to date with emails as the court case proceeds. And we urge you to attend these hearings whenever you can to make sure the community continues to be heard.
