More than 50 people gathered at Lota Park on Saturday (1-12-2018) to show their support for Bayside Action Group who are fighting to save Lota from a massive high rise development.
Brisbane City Councillor Peter Cumming dropped in to support the community in the fight against a high-rise retirement village at Lota House. Anglicare who have partnered with Village Retirement Group are adamant that they will proceed with their planned four tower development on the Heritage listed site. One of their representatives told community members at the recent communications meeting that they were expecting to start building in April 2019. This is despite the approval process not being finalised and in face of the overwhelming community opposition to a Retirement Village being placed within the Aged Care premise at Heritage listed Lota House. The message the community wants the Council to hear is that this will be a major issue in the 2020 elections. Bayside Action Group is one of a number of groups who are presently fighting inappropriate development in low-rise residential streets. See how to object Join our letter writing campaign.
