Dear Resident

Anglicare and Village Retirement Group have engaged a communications company called Three Plus to manage community consultation. Three Plus are planning to hold presentation sessions for the community on November 20 and 21 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm to try and convince the public that the proposed development will not have a detrimental affect on the community despite the fact that 98% of people are against it.

The information they get from you at these sessions will be taken to the Brisbane City Council as part of their development application.

You have to register to attend. Please do so and tell Anglicare and Village Retirement Group what you think about their plan for high-rise at Lota House.

You will be able to register when you receive a flier from Three Plus. We expect the fliers will be distributed from Monday, November 12. Please register so you can attend on either November 20 or 21 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

There will be a number of displays at the Three Plus presentations and members of the Anglicare and Village Retirement Group project team will also attend.

Anglicare and Village Retirement Group have also identified key service and community groups eg. Lions, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, who will be invited to individual follow up meetings after the Three Plus presentations on November 20 and 21.

These groups are made up of representatives of the community and as 90% of the community is against this development we assume that the Lions and Rotary clubs will articulate this to both the Church and Three Plus.

Chamber of Commerce is separate. Although they are also made up of representatives from the community, their entire focus is the Manly commercial area. They provide community support in the commerce areas.

For years there have been rumours about expansion of Anglicare Oceania Tce. However there has been very little definite information regarding this until the last few months. From reports the process appears all signed and sealed with very little to no data distributed to the residents of the village or the surrounding streets.

1)Has the infrastructure of the surrounding streets been planned? Remember we are old not dead and we like to get out and about so we will have cars.
2)Why would you put elderly people in high rise?
What happens to them in a fire – cannot use lifts. [have a heart attack walking down the steps]

There are no other high rise in the area.

Dear Jean and Peter,

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on the proposed Anglicare development of the Heritage listed Lota House.

We are buoyed by the community support for our actions but don’t underestimate the difficulties facing us as we fight against big business. Support such as you have shown by taking the time to comment ,assists us in knowing the majority of our surrounding community supports this fight.

Please continue to support and if able, attend the Marketing exercise on this coming Tuesday and Wednesday evening to show your dissent.

Also, if you haven’t already done so, it is not too late to submit an objection on PD online on the Brisbane City Council website:

If you would like assistance with putting in a submission, we are ready to help. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thanks again,
The Bayside Action group
